DISCLAIMER

THIS WEBSITE IS NOT THERAPY

Everything on therapywithakilah.com, including the blog, book recommendations, free resources, and any downloadable material, is offered for general educational purposes.

It is not therapy, not a substitute for therapy, and not clinical advice for your situation. Reading it does not make you my client, and it does not create a therapist-client relationship between us. That relationship begins only when we've completed a consultation, you've signed the required consent forms, and we've scheduled your first session.

Nothing here should be used to diagnose or treat any condition. If something on this site resonates and you want to act on it, please talk with a licensed clinician who knows your history.

IF YOU'RE IN CRISIS, THIS SITE CAN'T HELP YOU

I'm a solo practitioner and I don't monitor email, contact forms, or messages around the clock. Messages sent through this website are not answered immediately and may not be seen for several days.

If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, call 911.

If you're in emotional crisis or thinking about suicide:

  • Call or text 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline), available 24 hours a day

  • Text HOME to 741741 (Crisis Text Line)

  • Go to your nearest emergency room

Local crisis lines:

  • Philadelphia: 215-685-6440 (Philadelphia Crisis Line)

  • New Jersey: 1-866-202-4357 (NJ Hopeline)

  • Washington, D.C.: 1-888-793-4357 (DC Access Helpline)

Current clients: please follow the emergency procedures in your intake paperwork.

CONTACTING ME THROUGH THIS SITE ISN'T CONFIDENTIAL

Contact forms and email sent from outside a secure environment are not protected communications. Please don't include detailed personal or health information in a first message. A sentence about what brings you here is plenty, and we'll talk properly on the consultation call.

Once you're a client, confidential communication happens through the SimplePractice portal.

WHERE I CAN PRACTICE

I'm licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C. I can only provide therapy to people physically located in one of those three jurisdictions at the time of a session.

If you're located elsewhere, I'm glad the site was useful, and I'd encourage you to look for a therapist licensed where you live.

NO GUARANTEE OF OUTCOME

Therapy works, and it works differently for different people. Nothing on this site promises a particular result, timeline, or outcome. What changes for one client won't necessarily be what changes for you.

Any description of the work, including how long it typically takes, reflects general experience rather than a prediction about you.

AFFILIATE LINKS

The Book Recommendations page includes Amazon affiliate links. If you buy through one, I may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. These are books I'd recommend regardless, and many are available free through your library or apps like Libby and Hoopla.

OUTSIDE LINKS

This site links to other websites. I don't control their content, their accuracy, or how they handle your information, and a link isn't an endorsement of everything on the other end.

GENERATIONAL GROWTH THERAPY

Generational growth therapy is the name I use for how I organize my clinical work. It draws on established, evidence-supported approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Theory, Bowen Family Systems Therapy, and Narrative Therapy.

It is not a separate treatment modality, a certification, or a proprietary protocol, and it isn't offered as one.

CHANGES

This disclaimer may be updated as the practice changes. The current version is always the one posted here.
